First of all ‘magic’ does not contain a ‘k’. Second, magic isn’t real. Illusions are, however. If you have a deck of playing cards and google, you have all you need to learn some killer tricks to impress your friends. Have fun!

The only thing spelling it with a k means is that you’re being pretentious. It’s still imaginary, there’s a reason they want you to buy stuff, it’s a con. If magic were real, then there would be battlemages in the army, every major corporation would have a thaumiturgical R&D department, and the police would have detective wizards to arrest you for whatever you want to do. I’m guessing a date-rape spell.

They want you to spend you’re money so they can scam you.

The money is a prerequisite for a couple of reasons. First, if you don’t have sufficient control over your life to have the money to spend, you don’t make a candidate for learning anything more dangerous than that. Second, most (probably not all) instructors in magick (especially when they spell it that way) are only in it for the money, and this is their way of meeting their own prerequisite.
I’d say take books out of the library, but a lot of them have been stolen or vandalized by religious fanatics.

I’d suggest you’ve not looked at the right sites.
But of course it depends on what you’re looking for Spiritually Speaking.
I knew a Pagan who swore blindly that all the “magic” in the TV “Charmed” series was true & the “elders” were just stopping her from learning the skills. Another believed the D&D spells were achievable.
Naturally such people have a very irresponsible, juvenile and very limited idea of what they were looking for & were very bitter & disappointed when they gave up, instead of actually listening & studying.
[Later: actually Auntyb93 is ALSO correct. a GOOD teacher will ask for something to cover the expenses of a lesson, candles, incense etc. this is a big difference between a GOOD teacher & a rip off merchant.]

If you are talking about witchcraft and not magic tricks, then I had the same problem hunny. Here are some sites that I use. I hope at least one of these helps.

Wiccan High Priestess here. While lots of people who identify with the term “Wiccan” don’t practice the magickal arts, Traditional Wicca does teach spellwork and energy work. Further, Traditional Wiccan teachers don’t charge money for instruction. However, we don’t just teach magick, we teach a system that includes the religious part of the path. Certainly, one can practice magick without the spiritual (or even ethical) instruction that Traditional Wiccan covens teach, but most instructors who fall outside of that category will charge you.
So if you haven’t ruled out the possibility of learning more about Trad Wicca, I recommend that you go to WitchVox.com and look at covens in your area. Otherwise, you’ll need to pony up cash to learn, I suspect.
