Abba – Disillusion
by wicca on , under Spells That Work
Agnetha Faltskog began her singing career at the age of 15, when she passed an audition and was taken on by Bernt Enghardt’s dance band, a group from the Huskvarna region of Sweden. The group’s recognition grew and they had been soon necessary to execute on week nights as nicely as Saturday and Sunday. Agnetha had left school a number of months before, and was operating throughout the day as a switchboard operator. She discovered it difficult to reconcile her two occupations. She would frequently return home at 5am in the morning, and have to be in the office by 8am, and soon began to suffer dizzy spells at work. Agnetha recalls “One particular day I was so tired at work that I fainted and was sent home. My mother realised I was worn out and told me ‘Now you’ve got to choose, you cannot carry on like this!’. I too was nicely conscious of that so I gave in my notice.” With out hesitation, Agnetha opted for music. A new life began for the young girl. She chose a repertoire of ballads and romantic songs, like her idol Connie Francis. Following the break-up with her boyfriend Bjorn Lilja, Agnetha sat down at the piano and nearly instantaneously composed ‘Jag Var Sa Kar’ (I Was So In Love). When she attempted out her own songs with the band, the audience was extremely enthusiastic. Bert Enghardt decided to send a casette to Tiny Gerhard, a Swedish ex-rocker who had grow to be a talent scout for the record company CBS-Cupol. Amongst the songs included was ‘Jag Var Sa Kar’. The rest is history, Agnetha was on the road to stardom. This video …

Poignant and open. Her lover is no longer accessible. She feels the confusion which attends a broken romance: wishing, hoping, changing, wondering. The only ABBA song composed by Agnetha.

This is the one song that was written by Agnetha and sung by her to be put on a ABBA album. She was absolutely thrilled when Bjorn and the team decided to put it on. Shows her talent both as songwriter and singer.
